Life In Abundance

(Psalms 16:11) “You cause me to know the path of life; in your presence is joyful abundance, at your right hand there are pleasures forever.”

(Matthew 6:33) “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

(John 10:10) “The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

Satan is the thief that only wants to kill, steal and destroy everything in your life. Some of his weapons are resentment, lack of forgiveness, failed expectations, and fear of the future. All of these are a result of what others have done to you and they can steal all the joy of life. Those that hurt you continue with their lives, maybe not even being aware of what they have done, while you stop living, loving, and trusting people ever again.

The word used in John 10 in Greek is “klepto” from where we get the disease “kleptomaniac”. Contrary to “robbing”, stealing is taking something from you without you being aware of it. When someone steals from you at gunpoint, you say “you were robbed”, but when someone picks your pocket, it’s called stealing. This is precisely how Satan steals the joy of life from you, slowly and quietly until you can spend years and even decades losing many of the blessings God throws your way.

I spent many years bound by the tricks of Satan losing out on the plan God had for me. Slowly I was drawn away from God’s presence and I found myself lost and trapped in a vicious cycle of resentment, self-pity, and sinful pleasure in order to find purpose in life. One day, God opened up my eyes and I realized how I had been played like a puppet and used by Satan not only to destroy my future but also to hurt others.

Jesus promises us life and life in abundance. This abundance starts with the love He puts in us in order to be able to love, trust and forgive others, thus making our love grow. We start to be able to discern what is real from the lies of Satan, and we start to be filled with Godly knowledge. We enjoy every moment, appreciate every gesture, and truly cherish every experience. Simple pleasures now are more than enough to bring us joy.

A good way to know if you have the love of Christ in you is if you are willing to go out of your way to meet new people and share His love with those that may reject you. At this point, our life no longer is limited to our feelings or emotions, but we start to see the big picture and we realize the abundance available to us outside of ourselves.

Loving others without expecting them to love you back, is a key to a joyful life. This is part of the life in abundance Jesus promises.

• Keep us close to you so that we continue to be filled with fruits of righteousness.
• We ask that we continue to grow in your love with full knowledge and discernment.
