Chasing A Dream

(Philippians 3:13-14) “Brothers, I do not consider myself to have embraced it yet. But this one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I keep pursuing the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly call in the Messiah Jesus.”

(Isaiah 6:8) “Then I heard the voice of the LORD as he was asking, ‘Whom will I send? Who will go for us?’ ‘Here I am!’ I replied. ‘Send me.’”

(Job 42:2) “I know that you can do anything and nothing that you plan is impossible.

If you have been accused of being a daydreamer or chasing dreams, then you are probably one of the few people in the world who will make an impact in their generation. This impact can be either negative or positive. The key is to make sure that God is the one who gave you that dream by surrendering it back to Him. Not every dream chaser is God ordained nor is every accomplishment beneficial to the world. That is why we have to be careful what goals we are chasing in life as it could be damaging our lives and the lives of those we love.

Imagine what life would be like without those who dared to dream and did not stop until it was brought into existence. There probably would be no telephones, computers, internet, cars and planes, penicillin…etc. Without the invention of paper, ink, or the printing press, we would still only depend on people verbally sharing with us God’s Word. We sometimes take for granted these great achievements that have completely changed our lives.

Every great accomplishment in history started off with one man or woman with a dream. That dream was accompanied by deep passion, multiple failures, great sacrifices, hindrances from those closest to them, and above all, a constant temptation to quit and doubt if it was all a waste of time.

Moses had a dream to set God’s people free from the slavery of Pharaoh. However, he had to overcome his insecurities and at the same time the accusations of those he came to save every time they faced a challenge. But due to his disobedience, lack of patience, and short temper, Moses was denied by God to enjoy the rewards of that freedom and enter the promised land himself.

Joseph dreamt that he would be a great leader and that even his brothers would bow down before him, which happened when Joseph became Pharaoh’s right hand.  Nehemiah had a passion for seeing the walls of Jerusalem rebuilt, which happened in record time.  Joshua dreamt of leading God’s people to the promised land, which happened after they took over Jericho.

If you have a dream then first surrender it to Jesus to sanctify it, that is, to use it for His glory and not for your selfish desires. Second, get moving in the natural with it and don’t delay taking the first step or else God could pass you by and give the mission to someone else. And third, don’t let anyone ever tell you that it can’t be done as with God all things are possible.

If you take too long only thinking about your dreams and desires in life, you will probably end up being hired by someone else to fulfill theirs.

Prayers

• Heavenly Father, You have not given me into the hands of the enemy; but have set my feet in a wide place. Lord, You have also brought me out into a broad place.
• Thank You Father that Your plans for us are good and perfect and You equip us to fulfill them.
• Forgive us for chasing selfish dreams to make ourselves great in the eyes of the world.
• Forgive us for rejecting your calling based on what others have said about us.
• Forgive us for waiting too long to take the first step of faith.
• Give us today the courage to start acting upon what is in our hearts.
• We surrender every desire to the feet of Jesus and ask You to take away anything that is contrary to Your will.
• Give us the courage to change the things that are not allowing us to move forward with the mission You have given us.
• We declare that with You, Lord, we will be successful in completing everything we start and that we will not be an abandoned project.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
