Commitment Will Strengthen You

(James 1:12) “Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.”

(Matthew 16:24) “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”

There needs to be someone or something that drives you every day to get out of bed and do your daily duties. Those duties you have committed to might be a job, taking care of a house and family, getting an education, a ministry, a calling from God in a specific task, a need to excel in a sport or outdoor activity…etc. No matter what you have committed to, you will desire to see it completed and done with excellence. If not, what is the point of struggling every day and facing the challenges life throws at us?

If you are doing what you do without commitment, then you will always fail to complete it, or the sloppiness of your work will make it evident that it has been done out of sheer boredom. Doing things halfway or without passion will only get you halfway to where you need to be in all areas of your life. If you lack the passion, then ask God to give it to you.

Commitment is not shaken by our emotions or feelings. You don’t leave your children, or your spouse because one day you wake up and the love is just not there. Your duty is all you have to worry about and not to fail at it. This is what separates the men from the boys. We have to fight till the end and fulfill our calling no matter what the challenges.

Jesus gave us the key to enjoying all that He can give us. The key is to forget about ourselves, our pain, our struggle, and our emotions and to focus on the goal, the calling, and the duty without caring what happens to us. Following Christ closely means dying to ourselves in order to be sacrificed for the lost souls to be saved.

If you want to grow in your walk with Christ, I encourage you to commit to a task in your church, even if it’s online. I guarantee you that you will never again skip a meeting due to being depressed or because of what someone said or did.

(“There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you are interested in doing something, you do it only when it is convenient. When you are committed, you accept no excuses – only results. Bob Gass)

Commitment is the willingness to do whatever it takes, so as long as you fulfill the promises you have made either to God or to men.

• Jesus, You are He who is called David the King, He who is called David the servant, Lord You are worthy to be praised.
• Thank You that You are our example of commitment. That no matter what the challenges, You still finished Your mission to pay for our sins on the cross.
• Thank You that even if we betrayed You, insulted You, and even abandoned You, You still decided to obey God and submit to His wonderful plan to save us.
• Forgive us for giving up easily when things get tough or when we don’t get what we have been asking for.
• Forgive us for comparing our situation with others and thinking that we deserve more.
• Help us to be committed to You by dying to ourselves, our selfish desires, our pain, and our small dreams that keep us stagnant in your great plan for the world.
• By faith, we expect the crown of life promised to us by enduring all the hardships and not wavering from our commitment to Your calling upon our lives.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
