First Enjoy Today

(Psalms 118:24) “This is the day that the LORD has made; let’s rejoice and be glad in it.”

(Mattew 6:31-34) “So don’t ever worry by saying, ‘What are we going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we going to wear?’ because it is the gentiles who are eager for all those things. Surely your heavenly Father knows that you need all of them!

But first be concerned about God’s kingdom and his righteousness, and all of these things will be provided for you as well. So never worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

The number of insurances you have determines how much fear you live with. There is house insurance, life insurance, car insurance, travel insurance, credit card theft insurance, medical insurance, lawyers on call, dog insurance, and even phone insurance. Celebrities have even gone as far as ensuring the body parts that make them money. Another interpretation of insurance is “what if this bad thing happens to me”. Now, I am not saying not to have insurance, as some are required by law, and others frankly speaking are wise to have, but don’t make these decisions based on fear.

Another sign that you live by fear is by checking the amount of clutter you have at your home. Most of the things you have accumulated are under the category “what if I need it in the future”. I am not saying, don’t be prudent and throw out all your winter clothes every summer, but be wise and do not accumulate for fear of lack for tomorrow, for God has clearly instructed us not to lose sleep over what we will wear, eat or drink. By constantly worrying, we copy the way the unbelievers go about every day without having any faith in God’s ability to provide for all our needs.

All addictions are founded on anxiety and a fear of tomorrow. Drugs, sex, food, social media, TV, gambling, or even continuing in a toxic relationship are founded on the fear of rejection or loss in one way or another. This is not why God sent His son to die on the cross. Jesus came to set us free from such chains and to assure us life in abundance without a fear of tomorrow.

By living with an excessive fear of tomorrow, we deny God’s ability to provide for tomorrow, His love for us, and our trust in Him. It is wise to think and prepare for the future, but don’t spend all your time, money, and health trying to assure a good tomorrow by not enjoying the great pleasures God has prepared for you today.

We are experts in planning and worrying about our future on earth, but most of us have completely neglected the afterlife. By focusing on the natural things we need on the earth, we have disobeyed God and forgotten to seek Him first. We have insurance for just about every aspect of our life, but we have not purchased the most important insurance, which is for the afterlife.

Jesus Christ is the insurance for the afterlife. It is free and makes all the benefits of heaven available to you while you are still alive. The only clause is that you accept Him as your only Lord and Savior.

Prayers

• Heavenly Father, You are King eternal, King Immortal, King invisible, and King of the Jews.
• Forgive us Lord for not believing that You can do all things and that you can rescue us from any situation.
• Forgive us for worrying non-stop about tomorrow, what we will eat, drink or wear.
• We surrender right now all our fears and doubts at the feet of Jesus and receive in exchange Your peace.
• Help us Lord to bring hope to others through Your words the way You have taught us.
• We choose today not to get anxious like the world does about material possessions, finances, and our future, knowing that You will provide for all things.
• We cancel right now the Spirit of worry for tomorrow and chose to live today to its fullest.
• Thank You that our eternity is safe in Your hands through the work of Jesus on the cross.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen
