Get Your Prayers Right

(Matthew 7:7-8) “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

(Matthew 16:19) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

What makes us grow in prayer is asking God what He wants us to pray for. Let us not forget that we have been given free will and that includes us choosing the things that God does not approve of, even if that destroys us. Otherwise, we would not be able to follow, love, and submit to God with all our hearts.

Adam surrendered his God-given dominion over the earth to Satan by disobeying God, and God won’t just override that chain of command, unless YOU (who is like Adam), pray and ask God to intervene and stop Satan. Jesus (the last Adam) took back that authority from Satan and gave it to us, but we have to first submit to Christ and then learn how to use that authority in the spiritual.

Whatever we pray in the spiritual will be manifested in the natural. This is a powerful responsibility resting on our words and desires. So we better make sure our minds are aligned to that of God.

God has established three levels of prayer for us to follow, ask, seek and knock. But in order to succeed in this process and receive what we are praying for we need to ask according to His will, seek that which is lost, and knock on the doors that He has previously unlocked for us. And this can only happen when we have a deep desire to please Him.

First, we have to ask in harmony with the Word of God, making sure that what we ask for will benefit everyone around us, that it will bring us closer to God, blend in with our spiritual gifts and expand God’s kingdom on earth.

Second, we have to seek, which means to ask aggressively, without rest, expecting an abundance, and being ready to receive what God will do beyond our imagination.

And third, we need to knock, that is never give up on those desires, no matter what obstacles we face or what others think about us. It’s a prayer that requires action on your part, which can mean facing that person who oppresses us or asking the unthinkable from the CEO at your work or the Dean of Admissions in your college.

If we stay long enough in God’s presence seeking, asking and knocking, He will either answer our prayers or change our requests.

Prayers

• Jesus, You are The Mighty One of Israel, You are God the fear of Isaac, The Mighty One of Jacob.
• Thank You Father for giving us the free will to either chose or reject Your ways.
• Thank You that Jesus defeated death and Satan, and gave us the keys of heaven.
• Forgive us for not asking according to Your will, and for focusing on our selfish desires.
• We ask that we learn to seek first Your will and learn to understand Your heart.
• Give us the perseverance to continue asking, continue seeking, and knock on every door until we receive what we are asking for.
• Give us the things that will bring glory to Your name and keep us close to you.
• If we are asking for anything that will drive us away from You, we ask that you don’t allow us to have it.
• Let being in your presence be our greatest reward for asking, seeking, and knocking.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
