Learn To Rest In Jesus

(Psalms 61:1-3) “God, hear my cry; pay attention to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to you whenever my heart is overwhelmed. Place me on the rock that’s too high for me. For you have been a refuge for me, a tower of strength before the enemy.”

(Isaiah 40:29) “He’s the one who gives might to the faint, renewing strength for the powerless.”

(Hebrews 4:9-10) “There remains, therefore, a Sabbath rest for the people of God, because the one who enters God’s rest has himself rested from his own actions, just as God did from his.”

No matter how famous, important, or prosperous you become, you cannot ignore the time of rest with Jesus. If you ignore this time alone in the presence of God, you will end up crashing and losing all God has allowed you to prosper in. It is in these moments alone with God and His Word that we learn to see who we really are without being influenced by all the noise and activities surrounding us. Sure you might have a thriving ministry, thousands of followers on social media, and daily meetings both for business and church, but all this can vanish in one day.

If you see yourself starting to crash and burn, maybe it’s time to take a step back. By dedicating time to God, He will get full credit for your success, He will see how much you still depend on Him and not your own talent or strength, and pride will not have a chance to get a hold of your heart. The higher your rise, the harder you will fall if God decides to wake you up.

Every activity has to be done in God’s timing, in God’s strength, and with God’s purpose in mind. If you have wandered away and are too busy to rest, then stop right now all you have planned before it’s too late and let God once again direct your paths. Don’t worry, God is able to take care of all those people that you think depend on you being active with them, and all those projects that you are currently handling.

(“Samson could handle a thousand soldiers single-handed, but he couldn’t handle the loneliness of an empty room, so he finished up in a prostitute’s lap, called Delilah. David found the answer in God’s presence; Samson never did, and it literally killed him! Delilah’s lap looked so good to Samson that he stayed too long, revealed too much, and lost everything. When you are tired you are vulnerable! Your Delilah can be anything that comes into your life to deplete your strength. It can be a career, a relationship, or a habit. It’s what you turn to when you need to escape.” – Bob Gass)

Being busy with work either in the ministry or providing for your family, does not excuse your lack of personal time of rest with God.
