Overlook It

(Proverbs 19:11) “A person’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is to his credit that he ignores an offence.”

(1 Corinthians 13:4-6) “Love is always patient; love is always kind; love is never envious or arrogant with pride. Nor is she conceited, and she is never rude; she never thinks just of herself or ever gets annoyed. She never is resentful; is never glad with sin; she’s always glad to side with truth, and pleased that truth will win.”

(James 3:2) “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.”

Are you easily offended? Does your blood boil whenever something is not done according to your liking? Does the behavior of others take away the peace that Jesus promised us? Yes? Then you have a serious problem and you will end up being avoided by everyone you know. I´m speaking from personal experience, regarding getting easily irritated and God truly had to work a renewing of my heart before I could step into ministry and love unconditionally.

The Bible teaches us that we ALL offend much. Without you even being aware of it, just by the way you talk, walk, dress, your ethnic background, or even the perfume you wear might be offensive to someone. Therefore, we need to be sensitive to how we react to the things that personally offend us.

I´m not saying that there might not be a real cause for you to be offended, but if you have truly experienced God’s love, you will have the ability to overlook it and continue to love that person. If you find it hard to overcome the pain caused by that person, then you are entitled to part ways, yet always keeping the peace. Being in disagreement is not the problem, but resenting those that disagree with you can become roots of hatred.

This is especially hard with those closest to you as we tend to believe that they do these things on purpose against you, as they already know you well. If not, ask yourself why you lose your temper when your spouse, parents, or children say something that normally would not affect you if it was said by a stranger. We forget that God uses the people closest to us to see if we have the character of Christ.

God has overlooked your offenses towards Him and His followers by not striking you dead, something He has complete authority to do without having to justify His decision. Let us not take that grace for granted and let’s start to overlook all offenses for the sake of His name.

Don’t worry, He will give to everyone what is deserved if they do you wrong, and He can completely change the hearts of those that were against you to become your strongest supporters.

• Heavenly Father, You will not allow my foot to be moved. You are He who keeps me and will not slumber. The sun shall not strike me by day nor the moon by the night.
• Thank You for your patience with us and for overlooking our offenses for so long.
• It is by Your grace that we can experience Your love instead of Your much-deserved wrath.
• We thank You that You poured out all Your anger upon Jesus on the cross in order to bless us and allow us to be in Your presence.
• Give us the love necessary to be patient, always kind, never envious or arrogant with pride. Not to be conceited, never rude, never to think just of ourselves, or to ever get annoyed. Never to be resentful, never glad with sin, always to side with truth, and always to be pleased that truth will win.
• Make us understand that we also may offend many around us without being aware of it.
• We need a complete change in our feelings and emotions. Help us to be more like Jesus.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
