Stop and Smell the Flowers

(Lamentations 3:25) “The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the person who searches for him.”

(Psalms 118:24) “This is the day that the LORD has made; let’s rejoice and be glad in it.”

(James 4:14) “You do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

(Proverbs 3:5-6) “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

In this fast and frantic society, we have forgotten to enjoy the simple things in life. When was the last time you sat in silence and just enjoyed a sunset, or felt the wet grass under your feet or lit up your taste buds as you bit into a crispy apple? Every time we take a moment and just simply “smell the flowers” we realize the beauty and greatness of God and His creation. We are constantly bombarded with so much excitement and stimulus through TV, Video Games, drugs, and electronic gadgets that we have become numb to simply spending time with someone and sharing a good laugh.

When I was in full-time business traveling all around the country, I was constantly on the phone even while driving, trying to handle many situations all at once. I was what I called a P.P.S. “Professional Problem Solver”. Always trying to calm down customers, suppliers, transport companies, salesmen, and banks whenever any challenges arose that had to do with my business. Sure, it was exciting and profitable, but eventually, it affected my health and life choices for the future.

Time does not stop for anyone, but you can make it slow down if you learn to get your priorities straight. Even during the lockdowns due to Covid in 2020, most of us got hooked to social media, Netflix, and TV, totally wasting the opportunity to reflect on the more important things in life.

The Word encourages us to dedicate every day to God and in turn, He will make our paths straight. In other words, things will flow smoothly in our favor and we will actually end up having time to truly enjoy life. This is His promise to us, all we need to do is to actually take the time and do it and watch our joy be complete in Him.

(“This morning God deposited 1,400 minutes in your account. You can invest them, but you can’t save them. If you don’t like what you are getting – change what you are doing.” – Bob Gass)

• Heavenly Father, You are Lord our Holy one, Lord who sanctifies us, Righteous Lord and the Lord our everlasting light.
• We thank You for the beauty and majesty of Your creation.
• Thank You for showing us every day how much you care about us and how special we are.
• Forgive us for taking every day of life for granted and not understanding that You have given us enough time in one day to accomplish all You have purposed.
• Forgive us for depending on our understanding instead of trusting in You with all of our heart.
• Help us to slow down, turn off the TV and phone, and to just reflect upon You and your Word.
• We receive your goodness for waiting on and searching for You every day.
• We acknowledge you in all we do and receive the blessings you have promised according to Your Word.

• We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen
