You Won’t Last Much Alone

(Numbers 11:14-17) “I cannot carry this whole nation! The burden is too heavy for me! If this is how you treat me, please kill me right now, if I’ve found favor in your eyes, because I don’t want to keep staring at all of this misery!”

“Then the LORD told Moses, ‘Gather together for me 70 men who are elders of Israel, men whom you know to be elders of the people and officers over them. Then bring them to the Tent of Meeting and let them stand there with you. Then I’ll come down and speak with you. I’ll take some of the spirit that rests on you and apportion it among them, so that they may help you bear the burden of the people. That way, you won’t bear it by yourself.’”

God will never send you out on a mission completely alone. He will always raise up destiny helpers, financial supporters, and prayer partners along the way. The problem is that most of us don’t like to ask for help or admit that we need it. He does not expect you to be a superhero, nor a one-man show. No matter whom we idolize in life, there will always be a group of people who had something to do with their success.

God commanded Moses to raise up 70 elders to help him with the task to bring justice and order amongst the Hebrew people while they crossed the desert, as Moses was getting burnt out. And don’t forget as well that God raised up Aaron, Moses’s brother to do the speaking to Pharaoh while Moses focused on the miracles to show God’s power.

God does not expect you to carry the calling upon your life all by yourself. This help might come in the form of a spouse, disciples, well-wishers, other brothers who can share their wisdom and experience with you, or even angels in the form of men for a specific door to be opened.

In Exodus 18, Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, gave to him similar advice as both Moses and the people he was serving were getting worn out. This was advice for work in the natural, which was much needed, while a similar instruction given by God in Numbers 11 was for work in the Spiritual. Both are important, and both require assistance.

The important thing to learn here is that if you still depend only on your own understanding, only on your own anointing, your own talents, and your own limited time, you will always be behind in your task and end up being disappointed and failing to reach God’s timeline.

Jesus raised up disciples to help Him with many responsibilities while He focused on preaching, discussing with the religious leaders, spending time alone in prayer, and performing miracles. When it was time for the disciples themselves to go and do what Jesus was doing, He sent them out two by two. After Jesus ascended to heaven, He sent us the Holy Spirit to teach, guide, and help us will our mission.

If you still have not learned to appreciate those God has put in your life to help you and share responsibility with to focus on the mission ahead, you will soon burn out.
