5 Things That Can Hinder Prayers

Many times we pray and pray and never seem to get an answer, and if we do, it might not be in the way or the time we needed it to be answered.  But God is faithful to His promises and whatever He does is perfect and if that means denying something, trust me, it’s for your own good or part of His greater plan.  No matter what our suffering is, our solace is that Jesus is in control of all things and nothing that happens is by accident.

It is when we do not get what we are asking for that we show how much we continue to love Jesus just because He chose to save us.  It is in these tough times that the true Disciples of Christ stand out by continuing to praise His name.

Here is a list that might help you to receive answers to your prayers.

1.) Sin in your heart will definitely stop God from hearing your prayers. Anything that affects your relationship with God will hinder your prayers. He can’t ignore your sin, only forgive it if you are willing to repent. God cannot be fooled in this matter as He weighs the intentions of the heart. King David was very much aware of who God is and how He acts, therefore we can completely trust his warning in the book of Psalms.

  • (Psalms 66:18)  “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: “

2.) You need faith in order to ask anything from God. Faith that He is able to give us what we are asking for, and that our persistence in asking will be rewarded. We need to expect a “yes” before we even ask.  If our idea of God is that of a pagan god, who is cruel and insensitive to our needs, then we will always doubt if we will get what we have asked for.

  • (Hebrews 11:6)  “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

3.)In order to pray with faith that will move God and receive what you are asking for, you need to drown yourself in God’s Word.

  • (Romans 10:17)  “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

4.) Find someone who is strong in their faith and join forces with them. Their faith and conviction will help you believe and receive whatever you are asking for.  There is amazing power in the act of agreement.

  • (Matthew 18:19)  “Furthermore, I tell you with certainty that if two of you agree on earth about anything you request, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven,”

5.) Learn to be patient and continue to do good, knowing that God will never fail you. Your answer may be just one prayer away, one more offering away, one more worships service away, or one more act of love away.

  • (Hebrews 10:36)  “For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will you can receive what he has promised.”

Start to apply these concepts to your life and watch all unanswered prayers change into testimonies for the glory of Jesus.
