A Word For Singles

(Luke 1:34-35) “Mary asked the angel, ‘How can this happen, since I have not had relations with a man?’ The angel answered her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come over you, and the power of the Most High will surround you. Therefore, the child will be holy and will be called the Son of God.’

(Genesis 2:18) “Later, the LORD God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make for him a companion that is a suitable match for him.’”

The Bible is very clear about how God did not like for Adam to be alone. Eve was created and assigned to help accomplish all the instructions God had given Adam and for them to procreate and fill the earth. Bear in mind that it was Adam who was given God’s commandments, he was accustomed to being in God’s presence and was taking care of the garden (that is busy working) before Eve ever came into the picture. God knew that Adam was capable of completing every task given all by himself. This is a very important concept to understand, as in many cultures we are taught that a man or woman is incomplete without a spouse.

Yes, having a spouse and a family is the ultimate step towards maturity and fulfillment in our lives, but not having a spouse or a family does not make you less valuable in God’s hands. In the book of Corinthians, God actually advises singles not to desperately pursue marriage as they are more useful to Him single. This is so because they can divert all their energy to serving Him instead of having the added responsibility of meeting the needs of a spouse.

So, in order to be qualified to have a spouse or a family, you first have to be completely capable of serving God and accomplishing all you want in life on your own. Remember, Eve was created to help Adam in HIS work and calling which were already instructed by God. Adam was not to wait for Eve or to chase any dream or vision SHE had.

God has made us complete in Christ and we should never consider ourselves less for not having a spouse. It is when we are complete, confident, and dedicated to Christ that God can now send us a helper to make sure we get blessed and succeed even more. If you feel like you are not complete because you do not have a spouse, then you are not ready to have one.

Just like Mary, all you need is the power of the Holy Spirit around you to accomplish the will of the Father. Mary was nobody, but she was available to God in obedience to fulfill the greatest promise ever given to mankind, the birth of a savior that would take away the sins of the whole world. Jesus had no need of a wife to obey the Father and to complete His divine purpose.

(“IF you’re wondering how God will make things come to pass in our life, put the Holy Spirit into the picture. He will accomplish the task. No man will get the credit! Don’t just sit by the window waiting for God to send somebody.” – Bob Gass)

Only when you are complete on your own, will you be able to be of assistance to your spouse and fit into God’s plan.
