Defending What You Believe

(Joshua 21:45) “Not one of the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed—all of them came about.”

(Revelation 12:11) “Our brothers conquered him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not cling to their lives even in the face of death.”

(Peter 3:14-15) “But even if you should suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. Never be afraid of their threats, and never get upset. Instead, exalt the Messiah as Lord in your lives. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you to explain the hope you have.”

Do you know why you believe in the god, guru, or religion you follow? Or even why you don’t believe in a Creator at all? It’s important to understand the doctrines (teachings) that lead us to stand firm in our faith in God. Most of us are moved to faith by emotions, experiences, or just plain tradition. Even those who don’t believe that God exists have no foundation for their claim, except for their personal experience or lack of understanding. God does not cease to exist based on our opinion, experience, or understanding of who He is.

We are clearly instructed to have a ready answer for our core belief in Jesus Christ as the only true God and Savior. Our experiences, once we have been saved, back up His power and promises, but they are not enough if they stand on their own. Just saying, “It changed my life” is not enough, as any drug addict who went to rehabilitation can claim that and still deny Christ. The same goes for anyone who underwent serious surgery, treatment through a psychiatrist or even finding peace and guidance through a guru or yoga and meditation.

There has to be a difference between the peace, power, and change of life others claim to experience and what Christians claim. This difference is a doctrine, in other words, the Bible and what is promised in it. If your experience is not backed up by Biblical truth, it is just that, an experience and it does not bring any glory to God. Don’t forget that Satan and his accusations against you are defeated by the blood of Jesus and its power, your personal experience, and your not caring about what others will do to you for following Christ.

Unfortunately, many disciples of Jesus Christ have not been correctly taught how to use the Word of God to defend their faith or explain how the blood of Jesus saved us. You will never have all the answers, and God does not expect you to. However, if you cannot show in God’s Word the basic teachings of your faith in Christ, then you are still following Christ based on some kind of miracle, or an emotion. All religions have miracles, emotions, and a change of lifestyle.

What makes your faith the only true one? It’s the infallible Word of God.

God does what He says in the Bible, and the Bible says what God has already done, continues doing, and will do in the future …. This is the foundation of our faith and you need to know how to express it.

• Heavenly Father, You are God who gives the desolate, a home to dwell.
• God, You provide from Your goodness for the poor. You are the Lord who has compassion for His servant.
• Thank You that Heaven and Earth will pass, but Your Word will never pass.
• Thank You that we can stand firm on Your Word and claim it as absolute Truth.
• Thank You that time has proven Jesus to be the Messiah and that many have experienced Him personally.
• Forgive us for not taking the time to study Your Word to back up our feelings and experiences.
• We ask that we will learn how to use Your Word, alongside our testimony to bring down every accusation against us.
• We declare that because of the power of the blood of Jesus, every plan of the enemy against us is cancelled today.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
