Don’t Wait to Call Upon Him

(Psalms 91:14-16) “Because he has focused his love on me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honor him. I will satisfy him with long life; I will show him my deliverance.”

(Mark 11:24) “That is why I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.”

(1 Chronicles 16:11) “Seek the LORD and his strength. Always look to him.”

(1 Chronicles 16:8) “Give thanks to the LORD, calling on his name. Make what he has done known among the people.”

Why do we always wait till the last minute to call upon God? Why do we call upon Him only when we are in trouble? We should be constantly in communication with Him, asking Him to help us along the way, thus showing Him that we need Him.

We seem to think that we are required first to try on our own, and then ask God to intervene. Have you heard the expression “God helps those who first help themselves”? This completely contradicts God’s heart and His desire to have fellowship with us. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, the source of all wisdom, the one who gives us understanding, and the one who promises us victory. All things were created by Him and for Him.

God wants us to constantly pray, call upon His name, ask Him for all things first, depend on His provisions, challenge Him to do beyond what we can ask or imagine, and finally, raise our hands in surrender to His will. When we truly make Him our priority, He will make sure we receive what we need. Then, we will be able to give testimony and openly praise Him.

Most of us like to do things in our own timing, by our own methods and end up taking the credit for the achievement. We seem to think that God will think less of us if we don’t try on our own first. Or that God is too busy with more important things like pandemics, cancer, and famine, and that our personal problems and desires will only become a burden to Him. No father would ever think that way about their infant child, neither does God. He wants us to learn from Him by doing exactly what He instructs us. This requires asking Him and not depending on what others are doing.

Call on Him now.

Don’t wait until things get out of control. He will not chase you down or force Himself upon you. The ball is on your court.

• Heavenly Father, You are the Prince of princess, King of all the earth, and the Lord who is terrible to kings of the earth.
• We thank You that You have promised to deliver us from every situation if we focus our love on You.
• We hold on to your promise that you will give us honor and help us in our time of distress.
• We receive the long life You have promised us and we will see Your deliverance.
• Forgive us for not seeking You first, and not looking at You for our strength.
• We declare that we are nothing without You Lord. Help us to learn to call upon Your name early.
• Bring us out Lord of the trouble we have created by doing things without consulting You.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen
