Driven By Fashion

(Hebrews 13:7) “Remember your leaders, those who have spoken God’s word to you. Think about the impact of their lives, and imitate their faith.”

(Galatians 1:6-7) “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of the Messiah and, instead, are following a different gospel, not that another one really exists. To be sure, there are certain people who are troubling you and want to distort the gospel about the Messiah.”

(2 Timothy 4:3-4) “For the time will come when people will not tolerate healthy doctrine, but with itching ears will surround themselves with teachers who cater to their people’s own desires. They will refuse to listen to the truth and will turn to myths.”

Are you the typical person who changes your whole wardrobe based on the latest fashion? If everyone is wearing stripes, leather, pink, or orange, will you change who you are and what you like in order to fit in with the crowds? If fashion determines your identity, then you have no real personality and you are desperate to be accepted by others. This mindset can also affect your spiritual life and drive you away from God.

Think about it. Before, men were supposed to be hairy with mustaches, then clean shaved on most parts of their body, then Hipsters with tattoos, and now it seems like as long as you draw attention to yourself, you are considered to be in fashion. Women, who were modest with their clothing, now believe that the more seductive they are, the more they will fit in.

If we have received Christ in our hearts and are grounded in the Scriptures we cannot be moved like a leaf in the wind by the latest fashion in doctrine. No matter what prophetic revelation you have received, it might not be the final one that will stand until the return of Christ. No matter what you interpret from Scripture, you have to be open to being corrected and trained in all things. Only Christ is the Absolute Truth.

There have been church doctrines that only focused on the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. A time of Hyper-Grace that denied that Sin no longer exists and that we cannot preach repentance. There is also a new movement of pure Evangelism which focuses on, praying randomly for strangers to receive the Holy Spirit, asking them to give a prophesy, and baptizing them in water all within the same encounter, without even knowing if they are desiring to first change their sinful lifestyle and if they will be part of a Church.

Christ is the same today, yesterday, and forever. The Law of God is perfect. The modern megachurches, with concert lights, entertainment schemes and the latest worship songs based on feelings will pass away, but God’s Word will last forever.

I don’t know which doctrine you are following, but if it does not drive you to live a life of Holiness, sharing Jesus with others, charity, and loving unconditionally, then you probably need to get back to the Scriptures and get grounded in the Truth.

• Heavenly Father, You shall pluck my feet out of the net. You will keep my feet from being caught. You make my feet like the feet of the deer.
• Thank You Father for giving us leaders that teach us good doctrine.
• Forgive us for not seeking the Word and following all kinds of doctrines.
• Forgive us for being afraid of suffering or not being able to do things the way we think should be done.
• Forgive us for being afraid to hear the truth that will correct us and lead us in the right path.
• We ask for the boldness to face the truth and to change our ways.
• Keep us from strange doctrines and fashions that drive us away from holiness.
• Give us the integrity to be true to Christ and not care about what others will think about us.
• We ask for a backbone that makes us stand on the Truth of Your Word.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
