Encouraged By The Enemy

(Judges 7:13-15) “Gideon overheard one enemy guard telling another, ‘I had a dream about a flat loaf of barley bread that came tumbling into our camp. It hit the headquarters tent, and the tent flipped over and fell down.’ The other soldier answered, ‘Your dream must have been about Gideon, the Israelite commander. It means God will let him and his army defeat the Midianite army and everyone else in our camp.’”

“As soon as Gideon heard about the dream and what it meant, he bowed down to praise God. Then he went back to the Israelite camp and shouted, ‘Let’s go! The LORD is going to let us defeat the Midianite army.’”

When you are walking correctly with God, the enemy starts to tremble and will try anything to discourage you from moving forward. Satan knows that he is defeated and that the moment you walk in that victory, you are more lethal in the spiritual than an atomic bomb. He will try and intimidate you, make you feel worthless, and even make you doubt if God truly loves you.

Every battle first either is won or lost in the mind. We see how God brought fear in the mind of the enemy and confidence into the mind of Gideon. No matter what Satan has planned against you, God knows how to counteract it and make it work to encourage you.

A few years ago I used to frequent one of the busiest streets in Torremolinos, where I grew up, and stand in a corner to sing songs and preach the gospel. This street was is full of shops, many of which are owned by Hindus that have known me since childhood.

There was one particular shop that was directly opposite from where I always stood to evangelize and knowing the Hindu family closely made me self-conscious and uncomfortable at times. By preaching Christ, and giving testimony of my conversion, I felt I was openly offending them as what I preached contradicted all their beliefs.

I would regularly pop into the shops to invite these Hindus to visit our church and try and witness to them about the love of Christ. During one of those visits, this particular shop owner that was opposite from where I normally stood to preach commented on what I was doing.

He said, “Mahesh, you know what? I am really proud of what you are doing. You made a commitment to change your faith and find God through Jesus, and I have seen you now for many years constant in your faith not caring what anyone thinks. I wish I had that same faith and commitment to God.”

Wow…all this time, I thought that this “enemy” was against me and hated what I did. When actually, they were watching and God was turning their hearts with favor towards me.

The devil is a liar and God does love me and has already given me the victory through Jesus.
