(Galatians 6:9) “Let’s not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest—if we do not give up.”
(Ruth 2:10-11) “At this she fell prostrate, bowing low to the ground, and asked him, ‘Why is it that you’re showing me kindness by noticing me, since I’m a foreigner?’ Boaz answered her, ‘It has been clearly disclosed to me all that you have done for your mother-in-law following the death of your husband—how you abandoned your father, your mother, and your own land, and came to a people you did not previously know.’”
Sometimes we go through our daily chores, work routine, and children’s responsibilities thinking that maybe it doesn’t amount to much and that we don’t really matter. We tend to forget that wherever we are right now in our walk with Christ, we are needed and vital to the big picture. I guarantee that if you take a day or two off from your daily routine, someone will feel your absence and wish you don’t extend your vacation too long. If you don’t believe me, ask any mother or homemaker.
The modern generation has lost the value of persistence when it comes to performing their duty. If there are no instant rewards or public recognition, they easily give up and find something else to do. This was not so with our ancestors that toiled day and night even if nobody ever recognized them.
Their reward was able to say that they finished what they started and never once failed anyone who asked for help. Let us learn from how our parents, who fought through famines, civil and world wars, changes in government regimes, and severe poverty.
Boaz, a rich landlord, noticed Ruth, a young poor widow, while she was collecting the fallen grain on the fields after the harvest. He was impressed by her beauty, hard labor, and sacrificial love towards her mother-in-law even though Ruth was not a Jew and was free to remarry and start a new life.
They married and their grandson was King David, whose lineage led to Jesus Christ. This is an example of God’s favor for those that are diligently doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord, even if no one else appreciates them.
I served my Pastor for many years at times wondering if I mattered at all. When God finally moved me to another town to start my calling as a Pastor, I was informed that seven individuals had to be called to cover my responsibilities.
Let’s not forget that God’s favor will make the right person notice us at the right time.
Prayers
