Forgiven Through Faith

(Hebrews 11:11, 31) “By faith Sarah, even though she was old and barren, received the strength to conceive, because she was convinced that the one who had made the promise was faithful…By faith Rahab the prostitute did not die with those who were disobedient, because she had welcomed the spies with a greeting of peace.”

(1 John 1:9) “If we make it our habit to confess our sins, in his faithful righteousness he forgives us for those sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness.”

(John 10:10) “The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

Are your thoughts so dark that if they were to be projected on a screen you would lose all your friends? Is your past so evil that your own family would probably reject you if everything was exposed? Is the devil constantly reminding you that you are fake and that you truly do not love God? Don’t worry, this actually makes you a perfect candidate to receive God’s grace and forgiveness. However, in order to live in the victory that comes with this forgiveness, you have to have faith. Not only faith that God exists, but faith that God will actually forgive you of all, yes all your sins when you confess them to Him.

We read in the book of Hebrews about Sarah and Rahab. Sarah was the righteous wife of a great prophet and Rahab was a prostitute. The only thing they have in common is that they both had to use their faith in order to receive their blessings. God does not focus on your past or present failures, but He looks at your faith in order to straighten your future.

Sarah needed strength to conceive in old age, and she put her faith in the one who made the promise. Rahab had faith that God always gave victory to His people, and therefore, she decided to hide the Israeli spies in her house inside Jericho and thus proving her decision to worship Jehovah. She was later blessed tremendously, her life and property were spared when Jericho fell and she became part of the lineage of the Messiah.

In the same manner, we have to have faith in what God has promised, and not what the devil, our past, our unbelieving friends, our family, or even our elders in the church might say about us. You might still fail at times and continue to let others and yourself down, but this is not the end. If Jesus has promised new life, and life in abundance, then start living it by faith.

If God can choose a prostitute to be one of the ones that carried the seed of the promised Messiah, your sins can also be cleansed and you can be used to further God’s kingdom on earth. This same Rahab was the mother of Boaz who married Ruth, King David’s grandmother.

God will be faithful to His promise of forgiveness, even if you lack the faith to believe it. It takes faith to be forgiven and walk with your head up high knowing you are no longer under the dominion of Sin.

• Heavenly Father, You are the Holy One who inhabits eternity, the Lord who says “I am Holy”, and the Holy one in our midst.
• Thank you that our faith can move mountains, and it can set us free from our past.
• We put our faith right now in your promises and ask for the forgiveness of our sins.
• We receive your forgiveness by faith and declare that we are now new creatures in Christ.
• Our past, what others think of us, and what we doubt about ourselves have no power over us, in Jesus’ name.
• We receive all the blessings and abundance that come along with putting our trust in Your promises.
• We declare that we live the abundant life without sin that comes through accepting Jesus in our hearts.
• Help us to be like Sarah that did not look at her physical limitations, but at Your promise. Like Rahab, that chose Your side in fear, knowing that otherwise she would be destroyed with the rest in Jericho because you always gave victory to Your people.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen
