Persistent to Finish Strong

(2 Thessalonians 1:3-4) “Brothers, at all times we are obligated to thank God for you. It is right to do this because your faith is growing all the time and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. As a result, we rejoice about you among God’s churches—about your endurance and faith through all the persecutions and afflictions you are experiencing.”

(Romans 8:13-14) “For if you live according to human nature, you are going to die, but if by the Spirit you continually put to death the activities of the body, you will live. For all who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children.”

(Hebrews 10:24-25) “And let us continue to consider how to motivate one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another even more as you see the day of the Lord coming nearer.”

Our walk with Christ is not a 100 m dash, but a marathon of endurance. It’s not important how you started, but how you finished and if you are able to finish at all holding the Lord’s hand. Just because one day you chose to become a disciple of Christ does not guarantee that you will end up in heaven. Sure, if you were to die right after, there is no chance of you falling away from the faith, but it will take commitment, sacrifice, persistence, and getting your priorities in order if you desire to enter heaven.

God will only let those enter, that He recognizes and have truly continued holding on to the promises of salvation through the blood of Jesus. He will recognize those that have done His will, worked in His kingdom, shown fruits of repentance, been a part of His army, and of course been constantly led by the Spirit of God.

We are very quick to become lazy in our walk with Christ, to be easily discouraged by the persecution of the world, and to think we have enough knowledge of Him to stop pursuing daily the reading of His Word. We are warned not to stop encouraging and meeting with brothers and sisters of the faith, probably thinking that we have already done our part and it is now someone else’s turn to continue doing it.

In Mark 25 we have the parable of the 10 Virgins. We understand by this that we have to be vigilant and full of the Holy Spirit for when Jesus returns. Only 5 of them were vigilant, prepared, and expectant to face Christ upon His return. And these same 5 were the ones that Jesus recognized as His and were allowed to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. That’s a 50% chance of you falling away after you accept Christ into your heart.

In Matthew 13 we have the parable of the sower who sowed seed in 4 different types of ground, but only 1 of those grounds was truly fruitful. The seed was the same, but the hearts and discipline of the ones that received it were different. Only 25% made it to the end and were able to enjoy the glory of salvation in heaven. The rest were worn down by life’s struggles, temptations of the world, or simply by not having a submissive heart to let God’s Word settle into their lives.

The devil, they say, is in the details. You can be disqualified from the race because you ignore the small things. Therefore, make it a point to ask God what those things are, and ask for His help to make you change them.

Prayers
• Heavenly Father, You are Glorious in holiness, Jesus, You are the Holy Child, Lord Jehovah.
• Thank You for assuring us the victory if we continue to run the race of faith.
• Forgive us for becoming lazy in our pursuit of the knowledge of Christ and for avoiding the fellowship with other believers.
• Help us to be constant and persistent with our commitment to you.
• We want to continue to motivate one another to do good works as we gather in fellowship.
• We declare that we are God’s children because we have surrendered to the will of the Holy Spirit and are guided by him.
• We declare that we are fertile ground and that we are wise in Your Word and full of the Spirit.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen
