(Matthew 1:23) “’See, a virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel,’ which means, ā€˜God with us.’”

(Isaiah 9:6-7) ā€œFor to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.ā€

ā€œOf the growth of his government and peace there will be no end. He will rule over his kingdom, sitting on the throne of David, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies will accomplish this.ā€

(John 1:29) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

When the Bible says that a ā€˜virgin’ would give birth to a child, some scholars say that ā€˜virgin’ actually means a young maiden, unmarried, and not necessarily a woman that never had physical relationships. This can carry some logic as every woman under the lineage of King David was waiting to be the chosen vessel God would use to give birth to the Messiah, and thus would never get married so as to have the opportunity to be the mother of the promised savior, whom all the prophets had written about. However, this is just a desperate attempt for people to make sense of God’s wonderful miracle, and a real virgin did give birth to a child.

Why did God choose such a strange way to save us from the consequences of our sins? Why suffer in the flesh the torture of the cross so that we would be spared from God’s wrath? Why did He have to be born of a virgin and not carry the full DNA of a normal human being? All this was done in order for innocent blood to be shed that would be accepted by God as a payment for our souls. Jesus had to be God in order to save us and had to be a man in order to die for us.

You and I were the children of an earthly father, hence we have our father’s DNA – we were born in sin. But not Jesus! He was the earthly son of a heavenly Father. He broke the cycle of sin before He was born. Since Jesus had neither completely inherited the original sin nor practiced it – He alone qualifies as the Lamb of God who could carry the sin of the world upon Him.

Your blood and mine can’t even pay for our own sins, let alone the sins of anyone else. If you are still trying to pay for your sins, or think that you will have another reincarnation to make things right, then stop thinking that way.

Ā

Only the blood of Jesus can wash away your sins because it is only this blood that God will accept as a payment to save your soul from eternal death and separation from God.
