Hard Time Being Holy?

(2 Corinthians 7:1) “My friends, God has made us these promises. So we should stay away from everything that keeps our bodies and spirits from being clean. We should honor God and try to be completely like him.”

(2 Corinthians 5:17) “Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.”

(2 Peter 1:3-4) “We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God’s own power, when we learned that he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. God made great and marvelous promises, so that his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world.”

If you have a hard time keeping God’s commandments, is because you are still trying it in your own strength and through your old, sinful, and fallen nature. You are trying to please a holy God from a sinful and unholy source, which is you. It’s like trying to get drinking water from a gutter. You have to change the source in order to change the product. But there is hope for us, as God has already made available to us a complete change of identity, mindset, and nature. All we have to do is use it.

When Paul says that we are New Creatures in Christ, he is referring to everything about us. When you buy a new car, it is completely new. It does not come with used tires, worn down gears and brakes, or sunk in seats, it’s all new and smells fresh. What you now do with it and how you decide to use it is completely up to you. So don’t ever blame God again for giving you a defective one. This is what happens to us when we surrender to Jesus. We are made completely new.

Completely new, yes, completely. That includes our dreams, desires, strength, passions, priorities, love, and anything that has to do with our personality is completely renewed to be like Christ and we can now aim for holiness. The old things we still struggle with or desire from our past, are just an illusion that Satan uses to keep us from moving forward with God’s plan. I know it’s not easy to forget, and we are still tempted by that past, but it is not truly who you really are anymore.

God would never call us to be holy if it was something that could not be achieved. That would simply be cruel and it does not reflect the God of the Bible. Jesus gives us hope before we can even believe in hope, He empowers our faith before we even face a challenge and He commands the angels to protect us before we are attacked.

If we could just learn to submit to what God has provided through His Word, we could actually start to enjoy holiness instead of suffering through it.

• Heavenly Father, with You nothing will be impossible. Abba, Father all things are possible for You. When You spoke it was done and when You commanded it stood fast.
• Thank You for Your promises that encourage us to keep away from the filth of the world and helps us keep our bodies and spirits clean.
• Thank You that once we belong to Christ, all is made new and our past is forgotten.
• We declare that we have everything we need to live a life that pleases You.
• We decide today to walk in the Godly nature that You have provided for us.
• We declare that we will be able to escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of the world.
• No longer will anyone ever see us struggling to be holy, but they will see the joy in our hearts as we walk in holiness.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen
