Ask God First

(Joshua 9:14-16) “So the leaders of Israel sampled their provisions, but did not ask the LORD about it. They made a treaty with them, guaranteeing their lives with a covenant, and the leaders of the congregation confirmed it with an oath to them. But three days after they had made the treaty with them, they learned that they were their neighbors and were living in their midst.

No matter how big or small a decision you make, God wants to be a part of it. He is concerned with everything about you and wants you to include Him in every area of your life because you belong to Him. If you have given your life to Jesus, then God has purchased your soul and the rest of our days on earth. He wants to make sure you are fruitful, therefore you need to ask Him before you do anything at all. Yes, anything.

Before you go shopping, watch that TV show, check out that page on the internet, go out with those friends, and even attend that Bible study. Everything has be to under God’s authority and blessing in order for it to be beneficial to you.

By not consulting God first before taking any step in life, you declare your independence from Him. Not only your independence, but your self-sufficiency, and your hidden desire to do your own will as you think you know what is good for you. This was exactly the sin Eve committed in the Garden of Eden. The desire to know good from evil without having God’s laws or input in that decision. This is a very dangerous place to be as one day you may realize that Jesus no longer is part of your everyday life.

Every day you face challenges, struggles, and even the possibility of premature death. Don’t make the mistake some made in the Bible like Joshua, who was tricked into making a covenant with potential enemies that eventually became thorns on his side. David did not consult with God before going into a particular battle, and the result was defeat. How can God warn you if you don’t consult Him first? Remember, He knows the end from the beginning.

We go into partnerships with non-believers without consulting God and then we wonder how come we end up losing everything and even getting involved in illegal activities. We do the same going into a marriage with an unbeliever, and then, years later we wonder how come we have drifted so far away from Jesus, and how come our children are not following the teachings of the Bible.

Every failure in my life has been founded on my refusal to ask God first. And every victory has been achieved through obedience to His instructions.

 

Prayers

• Heavenly Father, though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me. When my spirit was over whelmed within me then You knew my path. You have hedged me behind and before and laid hand upon me.
• We thank You that you are concerned with every area of our lives and nothing is hidden from You.
• We surrender all things once more at Your feet and we ask that You continue to be our Lord and Master.
• Take our lives and make a vessel of blessings and honor for others. We want to be fruitful according to Your will.
• Forgive us Lord for having made decisions daily without consulting You first. For going to places, meeting with people and doing regular activities without first asking for Your will.
• We admit that we do not know what is good for us and that we need You to warn us from making wrong decisions that can affect the rest of our lives.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
