Let Go Of What God Says

(Galatians 4:29-31) “But just as then the son who was conceived according to the flesh persecuted the son who was conceived according to the Spirit, so it is now. But what does the Scripture say? ‘Drive out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman must never share the inheritance with the son of the free woman.’ So then, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman but of the free woman.’

Sometimes God’s commandments don’t make sense to us and can even go against what we believed or to our human logic. Why are idols and idol worshippers an abomination to God? Why is Jesus the only way to heaven? Why are we allowed to kill and eat animals? Why are evil people allowed to prosper? Why can’t we have premarital relationships? Why do innocent people suffer the consequences of selfish leaders? These and many questions will never be answered until we meet Jesus face to face. We can waste our whole life trying to understand God and never enter into obedience and lose our chance to be saved.

In Galatians, we read an account from Genesis 21 where Sarah (Abraham’s wife) tells Abraham to get rid of both, his first child (Ishmael) and the servant woman he had it with (Hagar). It is surprising that she asked for such a drastic step not just because the two didn’t get along, but God actually commanded it. What??? How can God do that? It’s not Hagar’s fault that she was asked to give Abraham a child because Sarah was too old and barren. But God had his reasons for this.

Ishmael, the first child was not a result of God’s promise but an attempt from Abraham to speed up God’s plans and fulfill them through his own efforts. Not only that, but apparently Ishmael was somehow persecuting Isaac, the child according to God’s promise. We all have good ideas that were not God’s ideas. Sometimes your miracle and your mistakes can grow under the same roof and eventually you will have to choose between both of them.

If things are great in one area of your life but disastrous in another, then you probably need to sit with God and ask Him to reveal to you what is hindering you from receiving His divine blessing. God will not allow you to mix His blessings and glory with your own blessings born out of a selfish, impatient, and fallen nature.

We can be so attached to all we have achieved in the flesh, with our own hard work, our own effort, our own talents, and our charisma that we cannot give it up when God asks us to do it. Believe me that whatever does not bring glory to God and God alone in your life is an obstacle in your walk with Christ. Offer up to God everything that is important to you right now and position yourself to receive a new level of His blessing in your life.

When you can walk away from something you love or think you cannot live without, because you love God more – that’s the sacrifice of praise.

Prayers

• Holy Ghost, You are The Spirit who intercedes for us with groaning; The Spirit who helps in our weakness; The Hovering Spirit; Spirit of counsel; Spirit of prophecy; Spirit of judgment and burning.
• Thank You, Father, for always doing what is just and what is best for us.
• Thank You, for being God, who sees into our future and guides us accordingly.
• Forgive us for trying to speed up the miracles and blessings You have prepared for us.
• Forgive us for disobeying You and trying to both do Your will and ours.
• Reveal to us those things which are interfering with our walk with Christ.
• Take away from our lives those things which are sucking away the life from our other blessings.
• Teach us how not to share your blessings and favour with our selfish desires.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
