Prayer Is A Privilege

(Psalms 91:14-15) “Because he has focused his love on me, I will deliver him. I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him in his distress. I will deliver him, and I will honor him.”

(Isaiah 1:15) “When you spread out your hands in prayer, I’ll hide my eyes from you. Even though you pray repeatedly, I won’t listen. Your hands are full of blood, your fingers drenched with iniquity.”

We seem to take for granted the ability to pray to God and that He actually listens to us and answers. Millions pray to dead statues, the sun, the moon, the stars, animals, gurus, and even nature expecting an answer. However, we pray to an eternal and loving God who takes pleasure in answering prayers and having a personal relationship with us.

The God of the Bible is not a decoration on a wall, a beautiful tradition to keep, or someone that only good and weak people believe in. He is the creator of the world, the one who controls the times and the seasons. The one who can bring the dead back to life, and yes, the only one who can turn your life around.

In the book of Isaiah, we have the teaching that if our hands are full of sin, God can actually choose to turn his back on our prayers and sacrifices, and nothing we do will please Him. Imagine praying, giving, and sacrificing your life for no real purpose, no salvation, and no connection with God. This is precisely the outcome of all man-made religions. This is why we need Jesus first to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and clear the way for us to be reconciled back to God.

Anything and everything we do in our own strength to show ourselves righteous before God is rejected and considered as dirty rags. The only prayer God listens to at this stage is “I am sorry, forgive me for thinking that You owe me something, and show me Your ways”.

Now that we can pray and have the assurance that He hears us, don’t get stuck with religious prayers of repetition like a parrot. Be creative, be bold, and be upfront with God. Don’t be scared or ashamed to pour out your heart, fears, downfalls or desires. There is nothing you can hide from God, as He knows what you will pray for before you ask.

Only when you have the faith that God listens to your prayers and is willing to honor you, will you start to realize what a great privilege it is to communicate with the Creator of the Universe on a personal basis.

Prayers

• Heavenly Father, You are Lord Most high. Lord our Holy one. Lord who sanctifies us. Righteous Lord. Lord our righteousness. Lord our everlasting light.
• Thank You, Father, that we have the assurance that when we call on You, You will answer.
• Thank You for cleansing us through the sacrifice on the Cross, so we can stand blameless before you.
• Forgive us for coming to You without repentance and with our own ideas and methods of worship.
• Forgive us for not understanding that only You can make us righteous through Jesus and that all our sacrifices are of no use.
• Give us today the understanding of what it means to pray and be heard by You, the creator of the universe.
• We ask that You do not turn your back on our prayers.
• We declare that because we have focused our love on You, You will deliver us. You will protect us because we know Your name. When we call out to You, You will answer. You will be with us in distress. You will deliver us and honor us.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
