Storms Are a Part of the Journey

(Romans 8:36-37) “As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being put to death all day long. We are thought of as sheep headed for slaughter.’ In all these things we are triumphantly victorious due to the one who loved us.”

(Philippians 1:29) “For you have been given the privilege for the Messiah’s sake not only to believe in him but also to suffer for him.”

(Mark 6:50) “All of them saw him and were terrified. Immediately he told them, ‘Have courage! It is I. Stop being afraid!’”

Just because you stand in the middle road repeating “I am not here, I am not here, I am not here” will not stop a truck coming full speed from hitting you. By ignoring situations, they will not simply vanish. Suffering is part of our journey as much as physical death is a part of life.

In 1912, one of the greatest achievements of man, the Titanic, sunk with over 1500 people on board. It ignored all the signs and warnings, thinking that no matter what the circumstances, they would not suffer any loss. They even went as far as to proclaim that even God could not sink it. However, over 10 things went wrong at once that together caused that ship to sink. Instead of being a reference to greatness, it went down in history as an example of what not to do.

First of all, do not ignore the fact that you will face suffering, storms, and persecution in life, especially if you are a disciple of Christ. Until we don’t face this fact, we will always be caught by surprise and unprepared to overcome any challenge in life. The Bible advises us not to ignore the plans of the devil against us. We need to know that he is around and waiting to always attack. Many have left the hand of God because of these attacks.

Second, CHILLAX, don’t lose your cool. We do not live by fear of what the devil can do to us, but rather he needs to watch out when we start to pray. God is still in control and through Christ, your soul is safe for the afterlife. By being afraid to lose your life or any material possessions, all your will do is make wrong choices in a state of panic, say the wrong words, and make everyone else panic as well. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

And third, don’t forget or give up on your mission. Jesus has a reason why He chose you and has already prepared good works for you to accomplish. There are lives that need you to speak to them, love them, or simply be there for them. If you lose your focus on your spiritual purpose, you will only live life feeling sorry for yourself because of the suffering you experience instead of finishing the journey with your boat full of fish (which are souls that you have brought to the feet of Jesus).

Those who live in constant fear scream “Wolf”, but those who trust in God declare “Shalom”, that is, peace be with you.

• Heavenly Father, You are Lord of Kings, Lord of peace, and Lord our counselor. You are the Lord that heals us the Lord most High.
• Thank you Jesus for being the solid rock upon which we can build our lives.
• Forgive us for caring more about our physical lives and material possessions instead of the purpose of our calling.
• Forgive us for being afraid and making others panic with our words and insecurities.
• Help us not to ignore anymore the plans of the enemy, but to face them head-on and defeat them by using your promises.
• We declare that in all these things, we are triumphantly victorious.
• We invite you, Jesus, into our boat and give you full control. Please guide us to a safe port and allow us to be used by you to become a fisher of men.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen
