(Hebrews 13:16) “Do not neglect to do good and to be generous, for God is pleased with such sacrifices.”
(Mark 8:36) “What profit will a person have if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life?”
(Colossians 1:16) “For by him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether they are kings, lords, rulers, or powers. All things have been created through him and for him.”
Do you know what all the following celebrities have in common? Singer Kurt Cobain, writer Ernest Hemingway, Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, actor and comedian Robin Williams, and Superman’s Lois Lane? They were all rich, famous, and excelled at their respective talents, yet they all committed suicide. Even after achieving heights that most of us could never even dream of, they still found no purpose in life. I don’t pretend to make light of the depression they must have suffered, but one thing for sure is that they lost the purpose to continue living one more day.
This mindset, unfortunately, is more common than you think as suicide is rampant in all nations. There seems to be a sense of having tried it all and experienced it all at an early age to the point where as adults we get bored with life. Simple pleasures no longer fulfill us and we need to continue to explore more and more challenging experiences to bring some joy to life. This is probably how most drug addicts, serial killers, and sexual perverts started in life.
However, when we have surrendered to Christ, we now start to see a new purpose to life. It is no longer about how much we can enjoy life, how famous we become, or how much money we can make. Our life now gets a divine purpose focused on how much we can serve others, how many can we lead to Christ and how much joy can our lives bring to those around us.
God takes pleasure in us when we give of ourselves and what we have to others. He not only orders us to do so but gives us and equips us with the talents and prosperity to do it as well. If all your talents are only used to fill your bank account, guess what? You will profit nothing in the afterlife. However, if you invest part of what you have to influence and help this generation, you will leave behind a legacy that will actually do good and bring glory to Christ.
When we realize that we have been created BY Christ and FOR Christ, our lives will become so precious to us that we will stop wasting time being depressed or trying to find a purpose for our existence.
Prayers
• Heavenly Father, You are King of kings, King of glory, Great king, King of saints, King of Salem, King of righteousness, King eternal and immortal. We praise You.
• Thank You, Father, that in Christ we find a divine purpose that is not based on what others can give us.
• Thank You for creating us For divine works and for great and wonderful things.
• Forgive us for trying to find a purpose in things that will perish and only bring glory to our name.
• Forgive us for trying to imitate men and celebrities, thinking we will achieve happiness and joy through them.
• Give us today the ability to serve others with the talents You have given us.
• Teach us how to get over our depression and the lies of Satan who wants to destroy our lives.
• We declare that we will do those things that bring joy to You.
• We declare that we have been created By Christ and For Christ.
• Nothing shall distract us anymore from our divine purpose and we will be remembered as those who changed the lives of all those who knew us.
