Who Is Your Provider?

(Genesis 14:19-23) “Melchizedek blessed Abram and said, ‘Abram is blessed by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your control.’ Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.’”

“The king of Sodom told Abram, ‘Return the people to me, and you take the possessions for yourself.’ But Abram answered the king of Sodom, ‘I have made an oath to the LORD God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will not take a thread or a sandal strap or anything that belongs to you, so you won’t be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’”

The one you depend on for your finances is the one who can end up becoming your God and your master. Are you willing to compromise your moral beliefs at work or in school in order to keep your job, to make that sale, or get that grade? A time is coming when you will be required to do certain things that might contradict the Bible if you want to get your salary, do business, or get your medication. Seems too extreme right? But this type of control is already a reality after the 2020 Pandemic.

If you or your church depend entirely on what the government gives you, then you are under their control. When the government approves things that are contrary to God, you will have no choice but to allow the same in your life and your church. This is what is happening with the modern churches that do not depend on Tithes and offerings, which is one of the economic systems God has established for ministry.

Tithing is not a matter of money, but obedience and proof of dependence on God as our provider. Abram was the first man in the Bible we have a record of doing this and he is recognized as someone who was tremendously blessed. But Tithing was not the only key to his success, it was being vigilant not to accept anything from anyone who would steal God’s glory.

There are those that might offer you help and even give you gifts, but in return, they expect to be praised and publically recognized…. This is them, trying to indirectly take God’s place in your life. They have clearly not understood the blessings that are released when we give back to Him by giving to others.

Just as Melchizedek was deserving of a Tithe portion for his blessings spoken over Abram, so was Abram worthy of all the riches the King of Sodom offered him for his help in battle. However, Abraham was able to discern that the King of Sodom would try and steal the credit from God for all the blessings.

I have personally had one person give me the condition that the offering he was sending me was for me alone and not to be used for the church. I pity those who think they are masters of their wealth.
