Be Still and You’ll Live

(Isaiah 64:8) “But as for you, O LORD, you are our Father; and we are clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hands.”

(Isaiah 43:2) “When you pass through the waters, I’ll be with you; and through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you. when you walk through fire you won’t be scorched, and the flame won’t set you ablaze.”

(Psalms 16:11) “You cause me to know the path of life; in your presence is joyful abundance, at your right hand there are pleasures forever.”

Did you know that the main reason for people drowning even if they know how to swim is that panic and fear take over them? If you fall into a calm body of water, by just being still and controlling your breathing, your body will automatically float and you will start drifting to shore. It is when you get anxious that you ignore all our training and end up drowning. Even if the water is a little rough, just by learning to go with the flow, you will be able to survive. Babies easily learn to swim when taught, because they don’t panic.

In life, the same thing happens when we are surrounded by the unknown or in a situation where we can’t see the shore. We panic and lose control, going into a panic attack and taking in more water than we can hold. However, if we just relax, trust that God has prepared us for this, and know that He is in control, we will slowly drift to shore and be completely out of danger.

We are God’s handiwork and He takes a personal interest in our wellbeing. Even if we go through rough waters, He is there with us and holding our hand while we move on to our next season. No matter what the trouble, God does not want us to unnecessarily suffer or struggle unless it is to strengthen us.

When we can be completely at peace, no matter what the situation, is when we can declare like David that in His presence there is fullness of joy. David wrote these words while he was hiding in caves persecuted by King Saul, whom he was supposed to replace. David knew that when we trust in God’s right hand, we are safe and will enjoy the pleasures of life. A king´s right hand is the hand that is raised when he decrees and declares.

Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, and therefore all authority has been given onto Him. Nothing and no one can interfere when Jesus is in control.

The same water that can drown you can also carry you. It all depends on how you learn to relax and trust in God’s power.

Prayers

•Jesus, You are He who is seated at the right hand of the Father, He who treads the high places of the earth, He who walks in the midst of the seven lampstands.
• Thank You, Father, that You watch over us and are in control of all things.
• Thank You that all authority has been given onto Jesus.
• Forgive us for fearing the unknown and going into a panic when things don’t go our way.
• Forgive us for not trusting in Your promises and doubting that you will protect us.
• We declare that even if we pass through the waters, they will not cover us.
• That if we walk through the fire, it will not scorch us, but we will come out victorious for all to see.
• We declare that no matter what our situation, in Your presence there is fullness of joy.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
