Bury the Past

(Exodus 15:4-5) “Pharaoh’s chariots and his army he has hurled into the sea; his best officers sank in the Red Sea. The deep covered them, they went down into the depths like a rock.”

(Romans 6:10-12) “For when he died, he died once and for all as far as sin is concerned. But now that he is alive, he lives for God. In the same way, you too must continually consider yourselves dead as far as sin is concerned, but living for God through the Messiah Jesus. Therefore, do not let sin rule your mortal bodies so that you obey their desires.”

Some things of the past are not easy to forget, especially if there has been deep pain and suffering. But these very things can become what stops you from moving forward in God’s perfect plan for your life, even to the point that it can affect your salvation.

All you can do with the past is to bury it and move forward, learning from the experience, no matter what it was or who is to blame. To forget about it does not mean to lose awareness of the event, but to let go of the resentment and the pain in your memory.

The key to doing that is to continue to forgive what you cannot forget until it no longer has a hold of you. You need to confess that the power of Christ has set you free from the pain regardless of what your emotions tell you. Confess what God can do instead of what you are feeling.

Your old self is dead and now you live through Christ. You are a new creature not bound by sin or the fallen nature of man. Just like Pharaoh and his army, all the painful memories of the past will be buried under the Red Sea and they will stop chasing you to enslave you once again.

Ask Jesus to give you the heart, the will, and the mind to forgive. You will have to let go of a lot of baggage on your shoulders in order to get through the narrow gates into heaven. This requires emotional healing directly from God’s throne of Grace and Mercy.

Don’t allow some else’s faults, sins, or imperfections stop you from experiencing God’s peace and victory today.
