Cleansed and Circumcised

(Matthew 5:8)“How blessed are those who are pure in heart, because it is they who will see God!”

(1 John 1:7)  “But if we keep living in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

(Romans 2:29)  “No, a person is a Jew inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, brought about by the Spirit, not by a written law. That person’s praise will come from God, not from people.”

(Deuteronomy 30:6)  “Then the LORD your God will circumcise both your hearts and those of your descendants so that you can love him with your heart and with your soul and therefore live.”

In Matthew 5 we read the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount preached by Jesus. This is part of the “Constitution of the Christian Faith”. It is rules and guidelines that can only be kept if we have first surrendered our minds to Christ, as these guidelines for a Godly life contradict the common sense and self-preserving mindset of the world.

Jesus mentions what we call the Beatitudes, where He teaches on how we are blessed in different situations that normally would cause us harm. This is possible because our knowledge of God is not based on religious activities or traditions, but on a cleansing power that starts within our hearts and mind.

One of these Beatitudes says that the pure of heart will see God. This promise is not made for when we die, but while we are still alive.  God does not lie nor does He go back on His word. Keeping that in mind, once you receive Jesus as your Saviour, you should be able to see God or at least perceive Him on a completely new level. Therefore, if you are not able to see God or experience Him as a loving Father, then there are probably still things in your life that are keeping you from having a pure heart.

God wants to cut out from your heart the things that are replacing Him. It might hurt a little, but unless we undergo this Spiritual Circumcision, we will not be able to enjoy God now, nor will we be able to enter into heaven when we die. Think about it, spend time in prayer asking Him to cleanse you once again, and you will start to see God at work in many areas of your life.

(“Forgiveness deals with the results of sin; cleansing deals with the cause of sin. Forgiveness comes by confession, cleansing comes by walking in the Light.” – Bob Gass)

• Heavenly Father, You are God who has not turned away my prayer and Your mercy from me. Merciful God, You shall come to meet me. You have formed my inward parts and covered me in my mother’s womb.
• Forgive us once more today from all unrighteousness through the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins.
• We stand before You today once more confessing that we still don’t see and know You as we ought to. We ask that You cut off from our hearts those things that are not pleasing to You.
• Help us to see what is stopping us from getting into a deeper relationship with You.
• We want to walk in the light constantly so that our evil thoughts and actions are constantly checked by Your Word.
• We want to see You God. We want to see Your mighty hand of provision, health, love, and power in every area of our lives.
• Help us today to have a true and living relationship with You oh God.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
