Continue To Fill Yourself

(Colossians 4:2) “Never give up praying. And when you pray, keep alert and be thankful.”

(Mark 14:38) “All of you must stay awake and pray that you won’t be tempted. The spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Do you think the devil takes a break from planning attacks against you and making sure you fail in God’s calling over your life? No right? Then what makes you think you can take an extended break from putting up your shields and keeping watch for all his attacks? You will not measure up to the daily challenges of life until you spend time in God’s presence.

The attacks will not be obvious, as those would be easy to see and fight. They will be subtle and will originate in your mind and emotions. You will start to wonder if all your sacrifices, hard work, struggles, and service is of any good to anyone. Your mind will be tempted by the temporary pleasures of the world instead of seeking God’s eternal glory.

Everything can seem pointless when your personal situation does not seem to improve. This negative mindset is very common for those that minister in the church as they are the ones that are truly changing the world and are constantly under heavy attack.

Prayer, fellowship with other believers, and reading the Word are important if you don’t want to feel hollow inside. Only when you stop being filled with God’s presence, with His love, with his promises, and stop your personal time of worship, will you become an easy target.

In his book, The Power and the Blessing, Jack Hayford says “I had gone on vacation, and I needed it! It was delightful to get to the beach. But about the fourth day … I found I was feeling empty inside. Then it occurred to me that for four days, I hadn’t read a word of Scripture, prayed a prayer, or sung a song of praise. It was just kind of ‘let’s get away from it all.’ We were so involved with Church that we didn’t want to do anything ‘godly’ for a while. But suddenly I was called back by the inner hollowness that I felt. Through that experience, I learned that you can’t recover at a physical or emotional level if you neglect the spiritual level.”

The devil is waiting to attack in our weakest moment, and our weakest moment is when we think that yesterday’s victory will stop today’s attack.
