Forgive Like God, Not the World

(Colossians 3:13) “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”

(Isaiah 43:25) “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”

(Psalms 103:12) “As distant as the east is from the west, that is how far he has removed our sins from us.”

(Revelation 21:5) “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”

Are you the type of person that forgives but never forgets? If you are, then don’t worry, you are perfectly normal. It takes a supernatural work of God in our lives to forget the pain someone has caused us. I have personally suffered pain from my own to the point that I had to completely separate myself from them in order to avoid further pain. The damage caused by that betrayal is deep down in our hearts and can leave a scar.

The scars can be so deep, that we might never completely trust anyone ever again. We might even never open up to our spouse because of the fear of being vulnerable and open to attacks. If that bitterness and fear get out of control, it can even affect any possibility of future relationships that God wants us to have. These relationships might be in the church, workplace, or even around our neighbors.

But there is good news for us. God has clearly commanded us to forgive the way He has forgiven us. He has not only taken away our sins from us as far away as is physically possible, but He has also sent those sins to a sea of forgetfulness, from where they will never resurface again to condemn us. If God has commanded this, it is because it is possible through Him. God can make all things new, yes, all things, even your heart, and your feelings.

Now, the only one that is constantly reminding you of your dark and fallen past is Satan. Therefore, if you are doing the same for anyone that has failed you in the past, betrayed you, hurt you, or insulted you, who do you think you are working for?… Exactly, Satan! If you are working under God, you will act the way God does. Forgive and really, completely forget.

The next time the devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future.
