Listening To God

(John 10:4) “When he has driven out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they recognize his voice.”

(John 14:16)  “I will ask the Father to give you another Helper, to be with you always.”

(Romans 8:14) “For all who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s children.”

(1 John 2:27) “The anointing you received from God abides in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you this. Instead, because God’s anointing teaches you about everything and is true and not a lie, abide in him, as he taught you to do.”

If you are reading or listening to this devotional today, it is because you desire to hear from God. That is the best place to be, as God promises that those that seek Him will find Him. One of the greatest gifts God can give us is to be able to have a personal relationship with Him without any other mediators. This is precisely what God has done for us through the death of Jesus on the cross.

Because of our sins, we have been separated from God and are not able to be in His presence. Once we receive Jesus into our hearts we become His sheep and are able not only to hear his voice but recognize it apart from all the other voices.

That is why He says MY sheep hear MY voice, that is, they listen to what I am saying and are obedient depending completely on me as the good shepherd.  The way He speaks to us is either through His word, through other brothers or sisters, and of course, through the Holy Spirit. This is one of the gifts we get once we are saved and chose to surrender completely at the feet of Jesus.

As a Christian, this is the main reason why we chose to follow Christ. It is to be reconciled back to God and to start hearing His voice. Sure, we have heaven guaranteed, and our sins are forgotten and washed away, but while on earth we get to experience God like never before. You will be able to differentiate His voice from all the noise.

I have had people ask me, “How come you speak to God, and How come you hear Him Speak to you? My answer usually is, “How come you don’t?

  • Heavenly Father, You shall give me the desires of my heart. Your left hand is under my head and Your right-hand embraces me.  Your right hand is full of righteousness.
  • Thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and we ask You once more to forgive us of all our sins. We invite Jesus into our hearts and confess Him as our only Master and Lord.
  • We ask You that we will start to hear Your voice like never before. That the Bible will come to life for us and we will constantly receive answers to our prayers through it.
  • Keep us safe from all the other voices that want to deceive us and lead us away from You.
  • We thank You for sending your Holy Spirit to be our helper and teacher.
  • We declare that we are Your children because we are led by the Holy Spirit.
  • We know You will lead us to green pastures and we will be safe as long as we continue to hear Your voice.
  • We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
