(Proverbs 9:10) “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”
(1 Corinthians 1:24-25) “But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”
There is a huge difference between personally knowing the president of your country and knowing about the president of your country. When you personally know your president, he also knows you. You have both spent time together sharing each other’s thoughts, concerns, and opinions. You understand each other’s way of thinking and have no doubt about what is to be expected of each other. This kind of relationship is real and the Bible offers us this personal relationship with the Creator of the World through the name of Jesus.
No other religion offers you this intimate relationship, ability, promise, or opportunity. By knowing God in this intimate way, you know the one from whom all knowledge and understanding come, and therefore you will be able to know and understand all things happening around you. God takes pleasure in revealing all things to those who are willing to surrender to Jesus and obey Him.
By fearing God and not wanting to go against His ways, we will automatically make the right choices in life and also be able to guide others. However, in order to receive such wisdom, we have to constantly be taking in His Word. Only those who are called by God will admit that Christ is the power and wisdom of God. Therefore, don’t expect everyone to agree with what Christ has asked you to do.
Billy Graham, probably the greatest evangelist of the 21st Century revealed his strategy to have the wisdom required to survive and thrive in this world. He read 5 chapters from Psalms and 1 chapter from Proverbs every day. He said that the book of Psalms taught him how to get along with God, and the book of Proverbs taught him how to get along with men. This will work for you, even if you are not a follower of Christ.
(“One night, a famous orator recited the 23rd Psalm to a packed house and great applause. Afterward, he spotted his vicar (priest) in the crowd and called him to say a word. To their surprise, he too recited the 23rd Psalm. But when he was through, there was silence. People dried their tears all over the audience. At this point, the orator stood beside his pastor and simply said. “The difference is, I know the 23rd Psalm – but he knows the Shepherd!” – Bob Gass).
The wisdom in the Bible and its promises will work miracles in your life, even if you are still not a follower of Christ. This is how much He loves you.
Prayers
• Heavenly Father, You are the Lord who will seek what was lost. You bring back what was driven away. The Lord who will bind up the broken.
• Thank You, Father, that you have promised wisdom to anyone who will ask of You and anyone who will fear You.
• Thank You that Your Word is powerful in itself and can change any situation by simply speaking it.
• Teach us how to understand You more and to experience the benefits of getting closer to You.
• Teach us how not to fear other things, but to fear You first, and thus receive wisdom.
• We ask for knowledge of the holy and thus receive understanding.
