What Are You Watching?

(Psalms 101:3) “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”

(1 John 2:16) “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”

Can you imagine a child growing up in this past decade without television? It seems impossible, right? We have become so accustomed to having the TV or online videos as our permanent babysitter and even our only source of entertainment that we have forgotten to double-check what we are exposed to. I challenge you to change the channel every time any of the following is promoted: promiscuity, homosexuality, theft, drunkenness, witchcraft, sorcery, lust, nakedness, extreme violence, or a hidden feminist agenda where men are portrayed as fools needing to be rescued by women. (This last one is especially subtle in comedy sitcoms).

Sure, there are documentaries and other medical, historical, and scientific programs for our personal knowledge. But even the news seems to push down our eyes the world’s fallen moral system and plan to make us immune to going against God’s laws. Nowadays we have become immune to all the lust and filthy language thinking they do not affect our lives or we have matured enough to handle them both spiritually and in the natural.

If this generation is known for not desiring to get serious about marriage until after they have their fun in life or are financially successful, getting divorced and remarried several times, are confused about their sexuality, chasing fast and easy money schemes, addicted to porn and gambling or simply not having any moral value system whatsoever, have a look at what is on TV or who is most praised and followed on social media.

Whatever you are exposed to constantly becomes part of your memory. Then it slowly starts to become part of your value system and reasoning. Finally, it is what justifies your actions as you eventually believe them as Truth. This truth can be either God and His Word or Satan and his world. You are what you eat, what you listen to, and what you focus your eyes on.

I know of Christian families that have grown up without a TV at home or very limited exposure to it, and guess what… They are completely normal.

Your eyes are the windows to your soul. Don’t try and deny that what you watch has no effect on you.

Prayers

• Heavenly Father, You are He who breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry and sets others in their place. There is no searching of Your understanding. Your paths are past finding out.
• Thank You for giving us the freedom to choose between what is good and what is evil.
• Forgive us for not filtering what we see or hear.
• Forgive us for thinking that we will be ignorant or foolish compared to others if we shut out television.
• We cancel right now any ungodly thought, image, or spirit we have invited within our minds.
• We burn with the fire of the Holy Spirit any desire, lust or wicked thought that we have seen.
• Give us today the wisdom and boldness to shut off anything that is not pleasing to You.
• We reject right now the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.
• Teach us how to guide this new generation without having to depend on what the world offers them.
• We declare that we will set no wicked thing before our eyes.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty name. Amen
