Why Don’t You Simply Ask?

(James 4:2-3) “You want something but do not get it, so you commit murder. You covet something but cannot obtain it, so you quarrel and fight. You do not get things because you do not ask for them! You ask for something but do not get it because you ask for it for the wrong reason—for your own pleasure.”

(1 John 3:21-22) “Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God. Whatever we request we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.”

(Psalms 37:4) “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Ask and receive is all we need to understand regarding our relationship with God. We ask God and He gives us. God asks us and we do it. It’s that simple. However, when we factor in our natural thoughts, doubts, fears of the future, sinful desires, and pride, we end up complicating this simple formula. God wants us to ask Him for all things, to depend on Him, to trust Him, and expect Him to give us what we desire. This is pretty much the simplest method to please God and to be in His will.

We will be forgiven if we admit we have sinned and ask for it. We will receive salvation if we repent and ask for it. We will receive the baptisms of the Holy Spirit if we just ask after we have received Christ. God gives us the reason why we are disappointed in life, why we are angry with Him, and why we continue to go against His ways for not getting what we want. The reason is that we don’t simply ask Him. We would rather do it our way, fight and kill for what we want in life. And if we do end up asking, we ask for our selfish desires to please our sinful nature.

If you have sin in your life, then you will lose all boldness to ask and receive from God. The devil will make sure to remind you of your sins, condemn you for what you are doing behind closed doors, and to make you feel that God does not love you and will not listen to your requests.

This is not true, as we know that the moment we repent of our sins and make a decision to follow Jesus, our past is erased and we are set free to ask and receive once more. Doesn´t matter if your mind tells you that you will fall again. By taking the step of asking for forgiveness, you will be forgiven that very instant.

The best way to always get what we ask for is to ask according to God’s heart. In order to get God’s heart, we need to be immersed in His Word, love Jesus, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is what we call delighting ourselves in the Lord. When this happens, our desires match those of God and He answers as we ask without shame and with full confidence and faith.

God does not answer to our desperate situation, but He answers to our faith in Him by asking and expecting to receive.

• Jesus, You are the Great Physician, the Great High Priest, the High Priest forever.
• Thank you Father that we can ask and receive the desires of our hearts.
• Thank You for the forgiveness of our sins through the sacrifice on the cross.
• Forgive us for not going to You first with all our needs, but for trying to do things our way.
• We ask for the boldness and the faith to simply ask and receive.
• We bring into submission the lies of the devil that stop us from entering Your presence.
• We declare that we are loved, forgiven, and in Your perfect and acceptable will.
• We ask right now by faith that You will continue to provide for all our needs.
• We stand boldly without condemnation, knowing that You will give us all we ask for.
• Teach us how to delight in Your Word.

• We ask in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
